The Empty State Is The Product

Every user's first experience is a screen with no data in it. Most teams design it last.

Designers present products full of content. Users arrive to products full of nothing. The gap between those two experiences is where activation is won or lost.

Treat the empty state as the onboarding surface it actually is: explain the value, show one clear action, and where possible seed something real so the interface has shape.

The same applies to error and loading states. A product is the sum of its states, not the sum of its happy paths.
